I’m a sucker for a tournament, so of course, I’m here to preview AEW’s World Title Eliminator Tournament. AEW will hold the first round of their World Title Eliminator Tournament on the October 21 episode of Dynamite. Eight wrestlers outside of AEW’s most recent Top Five Rankings will fight for the company’s first world title shot after Full Gear.

  • Tag team partners, Penta El Zero M and Rey Fenix will be pitted against each other as they both look to leverage their success in the tag team division.
  • Kenny Omega returns in earnest to the singles division for the first time since April 22nd to face Sonny Kiss, who is a last minute replacement for Joey Janela
  • Colt Cabana and Hangman Adam Page kick off the right side of the bracket in their first singles meeting since 2016.
  • Jungle Boy looks to hand Wardlow his second singles loss in AEW after he and Luchasaurus defeated Wardlow and MJF at Fyter Fest.

2020 RESULTS – SINGLES

  • Kenny Omega’s most recent singles match was his controversial 6 minute and 20 second victory over Alan Angels.
  • Omega’s 20:42 Average Match Length & Average Winning Match Length in 2020 is the longest in AEW.
  • Sonny Kiss’s only victory this year was over Serpentico on the September 5th episode of AEW Dark.

2020 RESULTS – OVERALL

  • Kenny Omega hasn’t wrestled at all since he and Adam Page lost the World Tag Team Championships to FTR at All Out on September 5th.
  • Kenny Omega has spent most of his 2020 competing in the tag team division with Adam Page, his 13 winning falls are good for fourth most in AEW in 2020 only behind Jon Moxley, Cody, and Shawn Spears.

  • Kenny Omega has participated in 3 of the 5 longest AEW singles matches all-time, including his 26 minute and 31 second lights out match with Joey Janela on October 9th, 2019.
  • Sonny Kiss’s 12 singles losses all-time (including battle royals) are second highest in AEW history, only behind Joey Janela, Brandon Cutler, and Lee Johnson, all tied at 13.
  • Sonny Kiss’s only singles victories in AEW have been against Serpentico and Peter Avalon. Both are winless in singles matches in AEW.

  • All of Colt Cabana’s 8 victories have all come on Dark. Colt is 0-3 on Dynamite.

2020 RESULTS – SINGLES

  • Only one of Rey Fenix’s 5 singles wins this year has come on Dynamite, his 10 minute and 30 second victory over Orange Cassidy on May 20th.
  • Fenix’s one loss was to Joey Janela, who could potentially be Fenix’s second round opponent if they both go through.
  • Penta El Zero M has only participated in one AEW singles match this year and that was last night on AEW Dark when he defeated QT Marshall in 8 minutes and 31 seconds.

2020 RESULTS – OVERALL

  • Penta El Zero M holds all of the winning falls in the Lucha Brother’s 5 Tag Team victories in AEW this year.
  • Rey Fenix has taken the losing fall in 3 out of 4 of the Lucha brother’s 4 Tag Team Losses this year.

  • Rey Fenix’s 7-2 all-time record in AEW singles matches casts a shadow on Penta El Zero M’s 2-3 record.
  • Only 3 of Fenix’s victories have occurred on Dynamite.
  • Penta historically has one singles victory on Dynamite, he defeated Christopher Daniels in 8 minutes and 41 seconds on April 12th, 2019.

  • Penta El Zero M’s +12 Fall Differential (winning falls minus losing falls) is 6th best all-time in AEW.

Jungle Boy vs. Wardlow

2020 RESULTS – SINGLES

  • Jungle Boy’s only singles victory on Dynamite was the TNT Title #1 Contender Battle Royale on the May 27th edition of Dynamite.
  • Wardlow has two singles victories on Dynamite, including his longest victory, a 9 minute and 13-second Lumberjack Match victory over Luchasaurus on June 24th.
  • Jungle Boy’s best bet here is to outlast Wardlow. Wardlow’s longest match to date in AEW was his 11 minute and 19-second loss to Cody.

2020 RESULTS – OVERALL

  • All of Jungle Boy’s 23 overall victories have happened in 2020. He was 0-11-1 overall in 2019.

  • With just 11 total matches and 45 minutes of ring time, Wardlow is, by far, the least experienced participant in this tournament.

  • Jungle Boy and Wardlow have never faced off in a singles match. Wardlow did participate in the TNT Title #1 Contendership Battle Royal that Jungle Boy won on May 27th.
  • Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus handed Wardlow his second overall loss in AEW during their tag team match on July 1st, 2020. Jungle Boy didn’t factor into the finish of that match, as Luchasaurus pinned Wardlow to end the match.
