  • This will be the 264th match to decide the IWGP Heavyweight Championship. 29.66% of those matches have resulted in a new champion being crowned.
  • Kota Ibushi has wrestled for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship five times in his career dating back to 2015 when he challenged AJ Styles for the belt. Ibushi is now 2-3 all time in IWGP Heavyweight Championship matches with both of his victories happening at this year’s Wrestle Kingdom 15 Event.
  • SANADA has wrestled for the IWGP Heavyweight Championship three times in his career, all against Kazuchika Okada and all unsuccessful. He challenged Okada at New Beginning in 2018, Wrestling Dontaku in 2019, and King of Pro Wrestling in 2019. As evidenced by the length of SANADA’s challenges, he has proven to be a difficult opponent for champions to defeat; the shortest of SANADA’s challenges was 32 minutes and 12 seconds and the longest lasted 38 minutes and 3 seconds.
